The Edward Thomas Fellowship needs YOU

Edward Thomas Fellowship and Charitable Status

This item is similar to the one that was circulated in a recent eBulletin but as not all members receive this it is repeated here, with an important update about potential delays to our move to Charitable Status.

Firstly, a big thank you to everyone who either mailed or emailed in with their thoughts on the proposed constitution, which was overwhelmingly approved.

The next steps are to form what will become the first Trustee Board of the new Charity and which will be proposed to and voted on by members at the AGM in March 2022.

Following that, the drafted Constitution and new Trustee details will be passed to the Charity Commission for approval, registration and issuance of a charity number. At this stage the Edward Thomas Fellowship will become a Registered Charity.

Before we get there, as you will recognise, we do have to have individuals who are willing to stand as Trustees. It is likely that the majority, if not all, of the current Committee will offer to stand as Trustees, however it would be wonderful if there were others within the membership who also felt they had something to give and would like to offer their services.

In particular, Barbara Kinnes, who has been Treasurer and Bookkeeper for the last eight years feels the time is right for her to step down from this role. The position of Treasurer is a key role for a Charity and we would especially like to hear from anyone who would like to know more about what is required. Without this position filled we will not be able to register as a Charity.

Additionally, the Fellowship has operated for several years now without anyone in the formal role of ‘Secretary’ – the duties generally performed by this role have been split amongst the current members of the Committee, including the Chair.

Under the terms of The Fellowship’s proposed constitution, the three ‘officers’ of the Charity – without whom it cannot function – are Chair, Treasurer and Secretary. We currently have a Chair but until we are able to appoint a new Treasurer and a Secretary we will not be able to proceed with our registration as a Charity, so if you are interested in knowing more about the Treasurer role please contact Barbara – bjkinnes@gmail.com – or about any other positions please contact Jeremy Mitchell – mitchjd.etf@outlook.com – in the first instance.

We cannot stress enough how important it is for the three posts to be filled, both for the Fellowship as it is now, as well as for it to register as a charity

Thank you for your interest in these important, and crucial Trustee positions.

Signed on behalf of the Edward Thomas Fellowship by:

Jeremy Mitchell, Chair

Richard Emeny, Former Chair

Ian Morton, Former Secretary
